Kids helping kids: globally and locally
This letter from Jennifer in Pennsylvania warmed our hearts so we’re sharing it with you. Be encouraged and inspired as you read her story!
| Dear Friends,
Annissa used the girl’s gift to buy 120 lbs. of rice. She divided the rice and stored it in seven giant Ziploc bags (someone else had sent the bags to Annissa earlier, she wasn’t sure why or what she would use them for – but God knew!). The seven bags of rice were enough to feed seven families for about a month. She bought a few vegetables too. Annissa printed an 8×10 picture of our three daughters and took it with her to show each family. She explained how God was using three little girls from halfway around the world to share the love of Jesus with them. She took a picture of each family holding the photo of our girls, and emailed those pictures back to our family. My husband and I reminded the girls that this is not about them. But it sure was neat for all of us to see the families helped through their simple act of love. Our girls saw with their own eyes how their small sacrifice was making a real difference and helping others know about God’s love for them. Since then, our girls have really grown hearts for missions. Now they are advocates in our community. On their birthdays they ask friends to give donations to the people in Cambodia rather than bring gifts for them. Together we’ve helped provide school clothes and supplies for kids in Asia who only had one change of clothing. They also raised money to buy food and a fan for kids in need. Birthdays have never been more full of joy! Another cool thing they did was raise almost $10 through a lemonade stand for two Bibles on CD and a CD player so that people could hear the Gospel in their heart language. Money raised through a tea party helped Cambodian kids in an orphanage. Another group of girls got inspired and their Girls Club held a yard sale and raised over $425 for missionary outreach to the same orphanage! I’m sharing these stories as a reminder that anyone of us can be used by God to be a blessing to others if we open our eyes and reach out. These kids really know that God is using them. He may use your family in a similar way. Who can you reach out to? By His Grace and for His Glory, |
Girls Club takes action to help orphanage:Inspired by stories about women and children in the Bible, a Girls Club sponsored a garage sale to benefit children in a Cambodian orphanage. Their leader Heather explains, “We had been doing some Bible studies to focus on women and children in the Bible who follow God and seek to live a life that is pleasing to Him. I wanted to impress upon them that no matter how young they were their prayers and generosity would be blessed. They gave their time to call church members, ask for donations, and do the prep and clean-up for the sale. The weather was beautiful; the sale drew dozens of people; and over $425 was raised for missions! We also donated the leftovers to a Christian thrift store – which blessed people in our local community too!” |
